Asian artists have become a legitimate part of the global art market in the past years and their importance continues to increase. Asia exists as a geographic entity but not as a socio- cultural sphere. Many different political and societal systems exist simultaneously. While China is marked by a combination of socialism and capitalism, India is defined by its role as the largest democracy in the world. Indonesia on the other hand is the country with the largest Muslim population in the world counting 191 million citizens of Islamic faith. The four artists shown in the exhibition represent four contemporary positions from China, India and Indonesia.
