Vishal K. Dar is an artist whose artworks hover between artistic concepts and architectural handcraft. They display an artful approach to the use of modern technology that explores through sculpture the potential of their material. In a playful manner, Dar succeeds in transcending traditional definitions and limits of art and design. He reveals his work as a process of giving material shape and form, depriving it of any initial function or sense. Using modern animation software as well as prototyping technology, he can be considered a pioneer in integrating instruments, generally associated with the creation of functional design, to explore artistic representations of material. Rather than portraying figurative objects, his work focuses primarily on the visual components, which emanate from the inherent characteristics of the material. Despite the visual perception of his works, including Comet, Nest or Mirror, his works are no less conceptual than visual. Through alienation of form and function, Dar shifts predictable associations to new meanings, working on the forefront of modern art and design.
